The Centre on Philanthropy was established in 1991 to help meet the need for more effective and efficient voluntary action in Bermuda. The Centre-'s primary focus has been to help charities, which in turn help the Bermuda community.
The Centre established a directory of charities and donors, and developed a web site. Information sessions and training workshops were conducted and primary research studies were commissioned. In 2004, after 14 years of serving the community, The Centre decided to undergo an extensive strategic review of the organsation. A taskforce was formed and after 9 months the group delivered a plan that included increasing the resources in order to more broadly serve the community.
Today The Centre offers a variety of programmes focused on training & education, sector integration and information and volunteerism. Highlights include a fully developed training curricula for nonprofits, structured corporate volunteering days, Bermuda-'s only online volunteer matching system (volunteer.bm), and Bermuda-'s only Third Sector Conference.
